Faculty Associate Ben Green exposes some of the challenges to Elon Musk's purported goal of using AI to reduce government spending. In a piece from Tech Policy Press, Green highlights three high-level challenges that those who share Musk's aspirations must contend with: AI often cannot actually and pragmatically replace government workers, AI tools must be domain-specific and integrated alongside human workers, and reliable human-AI collaboration is difficult to achieve.
Green's own suggestion? "Rather than strive simply to increase the government’s use of AI, policymakers should strive to enhance the government’s ability to assess whether AI will improve organizational processes."
